Zhaoling Tomb
昭陵
Similarly structured with other mausoleums,the Zhaoling Tomb is noted for its unique grave mound. Earth was heaped over the grave mound from the drains inside Baocheng of the other six mausoleums including Xianling Tomb and Kangling Tomb. The grave mound of Zhaoling Tomb, however, was nearly equal in height to the city wall of Baocheng. On this account, special enclosed wall was built to protect the grave mound. Coupled with the city wall of Baocheng,the enclosed wall formed a closed courtyard,referred to as Mute Courtyard by later generations. The later-built Qingling Tomb,Deling Tomb and imperial mausoleums of Qing emperors followed this practice.
昭陵与其他陵墓有相似的结构,以其独特的坟墓堆而文明。宝城内包括献陵和康陵坟墓的其他六个陵墓内的排水沟土堆积在墓堆上。但是昭陵墓丘高度几乎和宝城的城墙高度相等。于是,封闭的墙是用来保护墓丘的。加上宝城的城墙,形成一个封闭的庭院,被后人称为哑城。随后所建的庆陵坟墓,德陵墓和清朝皇帝的帝王陵墓也跟随这种做法。
