With the advance of computer technology, Email is now being widely used for people’s daily communication.  Indeed the advantages are easy to find: It’s paper-free for environment protection.  People’s interaction is made instant and email is easily saved.  However, people will be increasingly emotionless and illiterate if Email is kept prevailing in people’s life.  Consequently,  hand-written letter needs to be put equal emphasis on for a balanced development of culture.

        Firstly, Email blocks people’s intimacy which is supposed to be found in traditionally written letter.  To some extent, the alphabets in the computer can at most convey the necessary information.  But the emotion and personality is lost due to the missing writing  characteristic among relatives and friends.

        Secondly, people’s real-time communication suffers.  Due to the great convenience, there’s a growing tendency for the public to go to Email for business negotiation.  Meanwhile, the traditional way to talk such as telephone talk, faxing or the most important one, face to face meeting is inevitably abandoned.  Thus, the daily communication is made emotionless and pale.

        Moreover, Email is hampering people’s ability to write.  The most distinct feature of Email is tapping onto keyboard.  People don’t have to go to pens and paper when it comes to writing.  All we need to do is just open  turn on  the computer and type in what we need to tell.  In long term, we will forget the correct spelling and stroke as computer can automatically rectify your  our writing mistakes.  The price we have to pay is we are losing our ability to think and write.

        In my opinion, I support to use Email for an easier interaction in some cases.  Yet, hand-written letter should be attach the same importance to for our closer relations, more real time talks,  and better education to reach a well-balanced cultural development.
