On December 2, 2017, four self-driving buses hit the road inShenzhen, a city known for its hitech companies. The four self-driving buses were tested on public road. They ran on a 1.2 kilometer route with three stops. It was believed to be the fist such live test in the word.
Each bus looks like a normal one. But in fact, they are a little smaller than normal ones. There’s even a driver in position for safety though ideally, he never need to touch the wheel(方向盘). The new buses are driven automatically(自动地). They can even avoid hitting pedestrians(行人), speed up,slow down,make an emergency(紧急情况) stop,change roads tell traffic lights.
The smart buses can carry up to 19 passengers reach speeds of 40 kilometers an hour. Brave passenger who were in the test run gave quite active reviews.They said that it was mostly a smooth ride, though there were some complaints. “On the way a private car suddenly turned towards us the bus slowed down, but it sounded a little fierce(刺耳).” one passenger said.
The buses were produced in China by Shenzhen Haylion Technologies, costing about 500,000 yuan per vehicle. Test runs of the four buses have covered 8,000 km in Shenzhen so far.
